TPU Laminated Water Resistant Zipper
TPU Laminated Zipper is considered as water-resistant that features an additional protective layer against the elements. They incorporate a water-repellent polyurethane film coating on one side, which helps to repel water and enhances the garment's overall appearance.
These zippers come in two lamination thickness:
1. Thin TPU Lamination, allowing the underlying zipper tape pattern to show through, creating a textured look
2. Thick TPU Lamination, creating a smooth, uniform surface that completely masks the underlying tape
Frequently Asked Questions About Water Resistant/Waterproof Zipper
-
First, we need to understand how water can leak through a zipper. There are mainly two ways this can happen: water can penetrate through the coil chain or through the tape. The TPU lamination acts as a physical barrier on the tape, preventing water from coming into contact with it and effectively blocking liquids and moisture. However, the TPU lamination does not completely seal the gap around the coil, so liquid can still pass through the openings in the coil.
-
There are basically two types of TPU laminations: matte finish and glossy finish. Most windbreakers and outdoor bags use matte-finished TPU laminated nylon zippers.
-
Yes, our water-repellent zippers are an excellent alternative to TPU laminated zippers. They are treated with PFAS-free water-repellent chemicals, which are fluoride-free. When liquid comes into contact with the zipper, it forms droplets that easily slide off.
While water-repellent zippers offer protection against the elements comparable to TPU laminated zippers, they are especially well-suited for everyday use, such as rain or accidental spills. Additionally, water-repellent zippers are significantly lighter and more flexible than TPU laminated zippers, making them ideal for bags with zippers placed at corners or areas requiring extra flexibility.
